Welcome to Caring Counterparts!

Have you been sick for a long time without a diagnosis? Do you know someone who has gone from doctor to doctor, unable to get appropriate treatment for their symptoms? Do you support patients as they seek help from healthcare professionals? Then we have something in common.

Patients Helping Patients Find a Diagnosis and Feel Better

Caring Counterparts is a non-profit organization of patients helping patients with longstanding unresolved or complex health conditions. Our mission is to help patients find a diagnosis and feel better. We work with patients, those who love them, their doctors and support groups to provide information that can improve their quality of life and help them get appropriate treatment. Through researching and  goal-setting, and encouragement from a community of patients who are going down the same road, Caring Counterparts gives patients fresh opportunities for health and healing.

Getting a Diagnosis & Appropriate Treatment

For people who have received a diagnosis that they feel is accurate, there are in most cases support groups and other resources specific to their condition that they can turn to for help. Their problem-solving involves understanding their condition and getting what treatment is available.

But for patients who do not yet have a diagnosis, problem-solving involves wading through volumes of information (much of it unreliable or inaccurate) available on the Internet, in books, and passed on by word of mouth. They don't have the keywords to work with --  terms for the ways their body is asking for help that perk doctors' ears as familiar, and vocabulary that will allow them to understand symptoms and lab test results as they are described in their own medical records.

Caring Counterparts was founded to help patients:

  • give names to their symptoms
  • research reliable information about their health conditions
  • understand their medical records
  • communicate their needs to doctors and family members
  • locate imaging and testing facilities with the latest medical  technology
  • find the best treatment options available
  • take a leadership role in managing their own healthcare
  • treat getting better as a project and set goals for progress
  • improve their quality of life through encouragement and strategic problem-solving

We hope the resources we provide on this site will empower you with information, and help you envision a clear path to health and happy living.
